HelpCenterHelpCenter Review (2026)

Customer SupportResearched assessment · by Daniel HaketUpdated 2026-08-18

The IT and productivity layer is where small, reliable tools quietly give you hours back — or, done wrong, add another login to babysit. So where does HelpCenter actually fit?

The honest bottom line. Worth it for small Shopify stores that want ticketing, live chat and a searchable FAQ page from one app rather than bolting three together. Skip it once you already run a general helpdesk like Zendesk or Freshdesk for a business wider than the store.

What HelpCenter does

Pricing (2026)

(read 2026-08-18 on apps.shopify.com/helpcenter) Free to install, with a free trial on the paid tiers. Paid runs Basic $5.99, Standard $19.99 and Advanced $49.99 a month. The App Store lists it as “SB: Helpdesk, Live Chat & FAQs” from Shark Byte, Inc — the product calls itself HelpCenter, so you will see both names. Rating 4.5 from 244 reviews. The honest knock

The free tier is the hook and the FAQ builder is the reason people stay, but check which tier your actual ticket volume needs before you treat $5.99 as the price — helpdesks meter on agents and channels, and this one spans email, chat and Messenger. One dependency worth knowing: translating FAQs into other languages is handed off to a separate app (LangShop), so a multilingual store is two subscriptions, not one.

How to actually use HelpCenter

Start on free and build the FAQ page first: it is the part that earns its keep whether or not you ever use the ticketing, because it is indexable and deflects the questions that would otherwise become tickets. Connect email before chat — chat creates an expectation of response time that a one-person store cannot always meet, and an unanswered chat widget reads worse than no widget. If you sell in more than one language, price LangShop into the decision now rather than discovering the gap later. Distilled from apps.shopify.com/helpcenter, read 18 August 2026.

Best for: small Shopify stores that want ticketing, live chat and a searchable FAQ page from one app rather than bolting three together.

Frequently asked questions

Is HelpCenter secure and reliable enough to depend on?

Judge it on evidence rather than adjectives. Look for a published security page, single sign-on and role controls on the plan you would actually buy (they are often gated to higher tiers), a status page with real incident history, and a clear answer on where your data is stored. If the tool will hold anything sensitive, those four answers matter more than any feature comparison.

Who should not use HelpCenter?

Skip it if you already run a general helpdesk like Zendesk or Freshdesk for a business wider than the store — this is Shopify-shaped, not company-shaped. Buying a tool to fix a problem you don't have yet just adds cost and another login to manage.

This is a researched assessment, not a hands-on test — where we've used a tool ourselves, we say so explicitly. We name what each tool is genuinely good and bad at, and we earn a commission only if you sign up, at no cost to you.

Work at HelpCenter? Two things you can do here. Tell us anything this review gets wrong and we will correct it — we do that whether or not the correction flatters the product. And list HelpCenter on our marketplace, free. To be upfront: our audience is still modest and the listing link is nofollow, so treat it as a bonus rather than a growth lever.
