ClutchClutch Review (2026)

Operations & WorkflowResearched assessment · by Daniel HaketUpdated 2026-08-27

Clutch is genuinely free to submit a brief — but be clear on what it is: a lead-generation marketplace, not a neutral directory.

Best for: businesses that want to skip manual agency research and get matched quickly with vetted, best-fit service providers for a specific project.

Free for buyers. Clutch's help centre describes the Project Brief as the buyer's route in and says it goes to up to 9 service providers that best match your project requirements, with no fee named anywhere in that flow. Clutch is a B2B services marketplace — the providers being listed pay for visibility, the buyer does not. A free provider profile covers the listing, client review collection, badges and widgets, contributed content, awards eligibility and a profile on sister-site The Manifest; Sponsorship, Featured Listings and Clutch Verified are the paid upgrades on top. Plans change — always verify the live price on their site.

Correction after re-checking: Our earlier text said a project brief gets you matched with about five verified agencies. Clutch's own help centre puts the figure at up to 9 service providers for the brief; the up-to-five we were remembering belongs to the separate provider-side Pay Per Lead programme, which is a different flow. The honest knock

Your brief goes straight to agencies who will reach out to pitch you, and providers pay to be visible and matched. It's a fast way to shortlist vetted agencies; just expect the outreach that comes with it.

What Clutch does

B2B services marketplace — submit a free project brief and get matched with verified, best-fit agencies for your project, no research required.

What buyers report about Clutch

Recurring themes from the buyer-review sites listed at the foot of this page, read in August 2026 (BBB complaints dated June 2024 to September 2025). We have not run Clutch ourselves, so this is other buyers' experience rather than ours. We summarise it here because the complaints are usually the part a vendor page leaves out.

What they praise
  • The phone verification process is genuinely the best in the category, and it is why buyers trust the reviews. 3.9 out of 5 across 288 Trustpilot reviews (read 24 August 2026).
  • The buyer audience has high intent, and a free listing carries credibility even if it sends few direct leads.
What they complain about
  • The revenue model puts paid placement and objective ranking in the same product. Reviewers increasingly say the rankings read as sponsorship.
  • Sponsorship means a 12-month commitment from $12,000 to $60,000. Agencies are openly questioning whether the leads justify it.
  • The strongest verification sits behind the paywall.
  • Billing complaints and verification-badge subscription problems come up on Trustpilot.
  • Clutch's BBB file carries no customer reviews but three written complaints with company replies. One provider found an unsolicited profile of his own firm on Clutch carrying the wrong logo, no link to his site, an hourly rate two to three times too high and a minimum budget listed at $10,000 against his actual $100 — and two contact-form attempts drew no reply for a week. There is no phone number to escalate to.
  • A second complaint alleges a listed agency offered to pay a client to withdraw a negative review, which had first been rejected for insufficient verification and only published later. A third describes personal details removed from clutch.co reappearing on one of Clutch's other network sites.

Where the ratings disagree. The BBB file reads nothing like Trustpilot or the agency blogs, and the reason is who writes it: BBB complaints here come from the providers listed on Clutch — the sellers in the marketplace — not from buyers looking for an agency. If you are the buyer, their grievance (unsolicited or wrong profiles, no phone support) is not your risk; it is a signal about how the listing side is run. Clutch did answer all three within weeks of the BBB filing and removed what was asked.

When the paid plan is worth it

Clutch's help center documents free features for service providers, with premium advertising options on top: Sponsorship and Featured Listings. Clutch Verified is a separate paid upgrade. All three are sold to the providers being listed. A free profile covers a listing, client review collection, badges and widgets and a profile on sister-site The Manifest, so paying buys placement and depth. Clutch Verified raises the free profile's limit of 3 sharable case studies to what Clutch calls unlimited and adds up to 10 featured team members.

Sponsorship and Featured Listings buy position: 9 advertising tiers, Starter through Quadruple Diamond, set by how contested a directory page or keyword is, and one of 15 Featured Provider positions shown in groups of 3. Clutch documents a 12-month agreement for both, Verified billed for the full 12 months upfront, no downgrade or cancellation inside the term, and cancellation notice at least 5 business days before renewal. If you cannot absorb a full year, skip it.

Upgrading does not manufacture credibility either: the Premier Verified badge requires 3+ reviews, one within the past 12 months, a 3.0+ average and low to moderate credit risk.

How to actually use Clutch

As a buyer, the Project Brief walks you through your requirements and then recommends up to 9 service providers. Submissions can also feed the provider-side Pay Per Lead program, where Clutch builds a shortlist of up to five providers, matched on their bid amount and targeting criteria, their services and their organic rankings, with priority for active Pay Per Lead customers. As a provider, Clutch says profile setup takes 20 minutes or less, but the real gate is acceptance.

The help center lists rejection grounds including a company that primarily sells software, tools or platforms, primarily sells to consumers, duplicates an existing or parent-company profile, or runs a blog or publication site. Reviewers need a LinkedIn account, Google account or company email address; Clutch says it manually verifies every submission, usually within 5 business days, and warns that a recent increase in submissions can stretch that. Reviews it cannot verify publish as Not Verified and do not affect the Clutch score or directory rankings.

Vendor documentation only - none of these are independent reviews.

The natural comparison is G2 — G2 and traditional directories make you scroll and compare yourself; Clutch's brief-matching narrows it to a handful of vetted providers fast — the trade-off is that it's a matching marketplace where you'll field agency outreach.

Frequently asked questions

Are Clutch reviews trustworthy?

The verification is real and so is the incentive, and you need both halves. Clutch says it manually verifies every review submission, usually within 5 business days, and that reviewers need a LinkedIn account, Google account or company email address; anything it cannot verify publishes as Not Verified and does not affect the Clutch score or directory rankings. Alongside that sits paid placement — Sponsorship and Featured Listings buy position on the same pages the scores rank. Trust the individual reviews more than the order they appear in.

Does posting a project on Clutch cost anything?

No fee appears anywhere in the buyer flow, and the money comes from the other side: providers pay for visibility, while a free profile still covers the listing, review collection, badges and widgets and a profile on The Manifest. What it costs you is attention — the help centre says your brief goes to up to 9 matched providers, and they will contact you to pitch. Read 14 August 2026.

If I pay Clutch as an agency, what am I committing to?

A year, and for one of the two products all of it up front. Clutch's billing terms put both Sponsorship and Clutch Verified on a 12-month annual agreement; Sponsorship bills month to month, Clutch Verified is billed for the full 12-month cost upfront in a single payment. Inside the term you may upgrade but you cannot downgrade or cancel, and to stop automatic renewal you must give notice at least five business days before the renewal date. If you cannot absorb a full year, do not start. Re-read 14 August 2026.

What should I weigh before buying Operations & Workflow software?

Usually it sits on top rather than replacing everything. Tools in this class tend to become the layer where work is tracked and handed off, while your existing systems stay the source of truth for their own data. Before you buy, map which tools it would replace outright and which it would merely sync with. If the answer is that it syncs with all of them, you are adding a layer rather than removing one.

Work at Clutch? Two things you can do here. Tell us anything this review gets wrong and we will correct it — we do that whether or not the correction flatters the product. And list Clutch on our marketplace, free. To be upfront: our audience is still modest and the listing link is nofollow, so treat it as a bonus rather than a growth lever.
