Social BarSocial Bar Review (2026)The Free Plan Is Not For Live Stores

MarketingResearched assessment · by Daniel HaketUpdated 2026-09-18

This is a styling subscription, and the listing's own framing oversells it: social icons and share buttons build no trust on their own, and 'boost sales with social proof' is a claim the app has no way to support.

Best for: Shopify merchants who want branded social icons and a WhatsApp chat button on product pages without touching theme code, and who will use the built-in click counter to check whether anyone taps them.
Price: Free only on development and partner stores; a live store pays $4.99 a month or $41.88 a year · full pricing as we read it on 18 Sep 2026 ↓

Pricing (2026)

✓ Pricing re-verified 18 Sep 2026

Two plans, and the free one is not the one you will be on. Development is free but the listing limits it explicitly to development and partner stores, with billing activated on upgrade — so a real storefront does not run on it. The Monthly Plan is $4.99 a month, or $41.88 a year which the listing presents as a 30 percent saving, after a 7-day free trial.

All charges are billed in USD and recurring charges are invoiced every 30 days. The app has been on the App Store since 27 April 2020 and carries Shopify's Built for Shopify badge. Plans change — always verify the live price on their site.

The catch

The free plan is free in a way that will not help you, since it is restricted to development and partner stores, so any live store is on $4.99 a month or $41.88 a year for something most themes already do in the footer. The 5.0 average deserves reading rather than trusting: two of the three reviews on the listing were written after 11 and 13 minutes of use and praise setup rather than results, while the one longer-running reviewer reports that icon placement is limited and the app is tricky to figure out at first.

And more than 80 platform options mainly tempts you to advertise accounts you no longer maintain.

What Social Bar does

Shopify app from Effective Apps that adds a bar of social media icons and share buttons to storefront pages, covering more than 80 platforms, with a per-platform Follow Us bar, shape and colour options, an animation, a one-click hide for shoppers and a click counter. The free plan is limited to development and partner stores, so a live store pays $4.99 a month or $41.88 a year after a 7-day trial. Built for Shopify, on the App Store since April 2020, 5.0 stars over 39 reviews.

The question is not which plan, it is whether icons are worth a subscription

There is effectively one plan for anyone with a real store, so the upgrade question is simple and the value question is the whole review. What $4.99 a month buys is a bar of social icons covering more than 80 platforms, a Follow Us bar per platform, round or square shapes, colours you can match to your brand, an animation, the option to hide the bar on mobile, a one-click hide for shoppers who do not want it, and a count of how many visitors clicked.

The click counter is the part worth having, because it is the only feature here that answers a question rather than decorating a page: it tells you whether anyone actually uses the icons. The honest way to think about the price is as a recurring charge for something a theme edit can often do once. Most Shopify themes already place social links in the footer. What you are paying for is placement on product pages, the animation, and not having to touch theme code.

That is a real convenience and a modest price, but it is a styling subscription, and at $41.88 a year it should clear the bar of actually being clicked. The counter will tell you within a month. The permissions are narrow, which counts in its favour: the listing asks to view the store owner's staff record and to view and edit the online store, and nothing about customers or orders.

One caution about the rating. The 5.0 average rests on 39 reviews, and the usage times attached to them are unusually short. Of the three shown on the listing, two were written by merchants who had the app installed for 11 and 13 minutes, and both praise setup speed and support rather than results. The one review from someone who used it for 11 days is the most useful of the three, and it is the mildly critical one: placement options are limited and the app is tricky to work out at first, though it came good after some experimenting. Read the 5.0 as a verdict on installation, not on outcome.

How to actually use Social Bar

Setup runs through the theme, not the app. In the Shopify theme editor open App Embeds, find the Social Bar app embed and toggle it on, then save at the top right. Then open the app dashboard and check that the status reads Active; if it does not, use the Activate Social Bar button at the top right and save. If the bar still does not show up, clear your browser cache before you contact anyone — the vendor's troubleshooting article puts that third for a reason.

Connect only the accounts you actually maintain. Eighty platforms is an invitation to add icons to profiles you posted on twice in 2024, and a dead link in a Follow Us bar costs more trust than a missing one. Switch the click counter on from day one and give it a month. This is the rare styling app that reports whether it is being used, and the number it produces is what tells you whether $4.99 a month is buying anything.

Also decide early whether to hide the bar on mobile: it competes for screen space with the sticky elements most stores already run there. Support is chat from the app dashboard, or support@effectify.io. The vendor does not offer support in Dutch, per the listing.

Distilled from Effective Apps' help centre at www.effectify.help — the Social Bar articles 'The Social Bar is Not Appearing in My Store' and 'I want to request a missing Social Media icon' (updated 13 May 2026) — plus the Shopify App Store listing at apps.shopify.com/sticky-social-media-icons-bar, read 18 September 2026: the App Embeds toggle and Activate Social Bar step, the cache-clearing note, the support routes (dashboard chat or support@effectify.io), the plan limits, and the feature list including the per-visitor click count. Note that the bare domain effectify.help does not resolve; the help centre lives on www.effectify.help.

Frequently asked questions

What should I weigh before buying Marketing software?

Usually yes for the major platforms, but check yours specifically. Tools in this class typically ship native connectors for the big CMS, CRM and email platforms and fall back on Zapier, webhooks or an API for everything else. The practical question is whether your stack is on the native list or needs glue, because a missing native connector normally means either manual work or a paid middleware layer. Check the integrations page for your exact tools before you buy.
