Pricing (2026)

✓ Pricing re-verified 17 Aug 2026

Consumer two-year plans: Basic €3.49/mo, Complete €4.49/mo and Ultimate Pro €8.49/mo, each with three extra months. They are charged as €94.23, €121.23 and €229.23 for the first 27 months, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Read the renewal line before you buy: those same plans renew at €139.08, €219.48 and €338.28 a year, so Basic goes from about €3.49 a month to about €11.59 — roughly a threefold step.

The business product, NordLayer, is quoted in USD: Lite $8, Core $11 and Premium $14 per user per month with a five-user minimum and a 14-day money-back guarantee, and Core and Premium require a dedicated-IP server at +$40 a month on top. An enterprise offer starts at $6 per user per month from 200 seats. Plans change — always verify the live price on their site.

The catch

It's solid and easy, but a VPN is one layer of security, not a whole strategy — don't mistake it for endpoint protection.

What buyers report about NordVPN

Recurring themes from the buyer-review sites listed at the foot of this page, read in August 2026. We have not run NordVPN ourselves, so this is other buyers' experience rather than ours. We summarise it here because the complaints are usually the part a vendor page leaves out.

What they praise
  • Speed, ease of use and support quality are the three things positive reviewers name, and independent testers back the speed. 4.1 on Trustpilot.
  • A 30-day money-back guarantee that reviewers report actually working, via live chat.
What they complain about
  • Auto-renewal is the subject of active litigation, not just complaints. A class action was filed on 10 April 2026 in Virginia alleging the cancellation flow is deliberately difficult; Nord Security faced at least four similar complaints in 2024-2025 and at least two more class actions in 2026.
  • Once the renewal date passes, those charges are non-refundable. The 30-day guarantee covers your first term only.
  • Renewal pricing is substantially higher than the introductory rate, and the plan structure has grown more complicated.
  • Set a calendar reminder before the renewal date on the day you sign up. That single action avoids almost every complaint here.
  • SourceForge is worth reading for what is absent from it. Its NordVPN reviews are plentiful but stop around 2021, and across them the complaints are mild and product-shaped: the monthly subscription is expensive, some streaming services are not unblocked, one reviewer found support inefficient. Not one mentions auto-renewal or cancellation — the issue that dominates the platforms with current reviews and is now the subject of litigation.

Where the ratings disagree. Compare the dates before you compare the verdicts. A platform whose sample ends in 2021 describes a product people liked; the billing dispute only appears where reviews are recent. If a comparison site quotes an old aggregate at you, that is what you are being shown.

When the paid plan is worth it

For the consumer product the tier difference is small and the term length is the real decision. Basic, Complete and Ultimate Pro were €3.49, €4.49 and €8.49 a month on the two-year term when read from a Dutch address, charged as €94.23, €121.23 and €229.23 for the first 27 months. What upgrading does not change is the renewal: those same plans then bill €139.08, €219.48 and €338.28 a year, so Basic moves from roughly €3.49 to about €11.59 a month whichever tier you pick.

Choose the tier on what the extras are worth to you, then set a calendar reminder for the renewal date, because that is the number that decides the second year. On the business side, NordLayer runs $8 to $14 per user a month across Lite, Core and Premium with a five-user minimum. The upgrade there carries a compulsory cost: the dedicated-IP server at $40 a month is required on Core and Premium rather than optional. Enterprise starts at $6 a seat but needs 200+ seats.

How to actually use NordVPN

For the consumer app the route is short. Download the app for the platform in use, open it and sign in with an existing Nord Account rather than creating one inside the app. Then press Secure my connection to let it choose a server, or tap a country on the map for a specific exit. Linux users skip the interface and run nordvpn connect. The vendor sells 2-year, 1-year and 1-month terms, and the refund window is a 30-day money-back guarantee tied to the first purchase only, so evaluation must finish before the term renews.

Business deployments through NordLayer are where people stall. The vendor's guide claims an admin can get the platform running in under 10 minutes, but seats are invited under Organization > Members and a licence only becomes active once the invitation is accepted. Teams must exist before a gateway or dedicated IP can be assigned to them, and reducing licence counts is not self-service: the documentation routes downscaling through an account manager.

Distilled from Vendor support and onboarding documentation: NordVPN Help Center (support.nordvpn.com) and NordLayer Help Center plus the NordLayer setup guide (help.nordlayer.com, nordlayer.com/blog), read 4 August 2026. The nordvpn.com and nordlayer.com pricing pages returned HTTP 403 and could not be read.

The natural comparison is Proton VPN or Twingate — other business VPN and zero-trust access tools. Weigh it against ExpressVPN on the job you actually need done.

Frequently asked questions

What does NordVPN cost per month, really?

The advertised figure and the figure you will pay are different, and the gap is on the page if you read the small print. On 17 August 2026, from a Dutch address, the two-year Basic plan was €3.49 a month — €94.23 for the first 27 months — and renews at €139.08 a year, which is about €11.59 a month. Complete runs €4.49 then €219.48 a year; Ultimate Pro €8.49 then €338.28. Set a reminder before the renewal date on the day you sign up.

What does a dedicated IP cost with NordVPN's business product?

On NordLayer the dedicated-IP server is +$40 a month, and on the Core and Premium plans it is required rather than optional — that is stated on their pricing page, read 17 August 2026. Seats themselves are $8, $11 and $14 per user per month for Lite, Core and Premium, with a five-user minimum, so a five-person team on Core is $55 plus $40, not $55.

Is the 30-day money-back guarantee good for the renewal too?

No. It covers your first term. Once a renewal charge goes through it is outside the guarantee, which is exactly the situation behind most of the billing complaints on review platforms. The guarantee itself is reported to work when you use it in time, via live chat.

What should I weigh before buying IT & Productivity software?

Judge it on evidence rather than adjectives. Look for a published security page, single sign-on and role controls on the plan you would actually buy (they are often gated to higher tiers), a status page with real incident history, and a clear answer on where your data is stored. If the tool will hold anything sensitive, those four answers matter more than any feature comparison.
