AirwallexAirwallex Review (2026)

FinanceResearched assessment · by Daniel HaketUpdated 2026-08-01

The IT and productivity layer is where small, reliable tools quietly give you hours back — or, done wrong, add another login to babysit. So where does Airwallex actually fit?

The honest bottom line. Worth it for companies invoicing or paying in several currencies. Skip it once you bill in one currency and pay domestic suppliers.

What Airwallex does

Multi-currency business accounts, corporate cards, international transfers and payment acceptance.

Pricing (2026)

(2026-08-01, read on their own pricing page) FX conversion 0.5% above the interbank rate for major currencies and 1% for all others. Local transfers to 120+ countries free; SWIFT transfers $15–$25 each. Payment acceptance 2.8% + $0.30 on domestic cards and 4.30% + $0.30 on international cards; local payment methods $0.30 plus method-specific fees. Corporate cards carry no international fees and up to 2% cash rebate on local USD spend. Account plans: Explore free, Grow $12 per user/month plus a platform fee that varies with team size, Accelerate custom. Platform API and embedded finance are quote-only. Plans change — always verify the live price on their site.

The honest knock

The honest headline here is that the FX markup is published at all — 0.5% and 1% above interbank is a real number, and most competitors will not print one. What the page does not settle is everything around it. The Grow plan's platform fee 'varies with team size' with no table, so the $12 a user is not the whole subscription. Chargeback and dispute fees are not priced anywhere, only mentioned as a feature. And the page's own disclaimer says per-transaction fees apply to certain transactions with the detail in a separate fee schedule. So: use the published FX rate to compare against your bank, then ask for the fee schedule and the platform fee before you move money.

Best for: companies invoicing or paying in several currencies, where a 0.5% spread against your bank's 2–3% is the whole business case.

The natural comparison is Wise Business or Revolut Business — the direct multi-currency peers — compare the published FX markup first, then the monthly platform fee at your headcount. Decide by which one fits the job above, not by the louder brand.

My ex-banker filter is simple: does Airwallex remove a real cost — time, errors, missed revenue — bigger than what it charges? If the job above is genuinely yours, it's worth a look. We never publish fake or “exclusive” prices, so always confirm the current plan on their site.

Frequently asked questions

Is Airwallex secure and reliable enough to depend on?

Judge it on evidence rather than adjectives. Look for a published security page, single sign-on and role controls on the plan you would actually buy (they are often gated to higher tiers), a status page with real incident history, and a clear answer on where your data is stored. If the tool will hold anything sensitive, those four answers matter more than any feature comparison.

Who should not use Airwallex?

Skip it if you bill in one currency and pay domestic suppliers — the multi-currency machinery is the product, and without FX volume you are paying a platform fee for a bank account. Buying a tool to fix a problem you don't have yet just adds cost and another login to manage.
