The best Shopify customer support apps (2026)

Already narrowed it down? read our honest HelpCenter review → — what the $5.99 tier really covers, and where it stops.
Short answer: The best shopify support apps are eDesk for one inbox across Amazon, eBay, Shopify and email, when the store is not the whole business; HelpCenter for ticketing, live chat and a searchable FAQ page from one app at the small-store end; NeuroAds for judging AI chat on your own catalogue before you pay: the free tier is 200 conversations a month. Below, what each is best for — and who should skip it.

Support apps for Shopify almost never charge by the seat, and that is the thing to understand before you compare them. They charge by the unit of work — and the unit is usually the thing the app exists to produce more of. StoreFAQ meters FAQ page views: read on 21 August 2026, the Professional tier is $7.99 a month for 500 views, then $0.0159 for every view after that. You install it so those pages rank and get read, and every read is a billable unit. eDesk charges $39 per agent a month on the annual rate, $49 if you pay monthly (read 17 August 2026), and then $0.99 for every query its AI resolves — at a thousand resolutions that is $990 on top of the seats. Cloze listed at $49 a month for 250 AI conversations with $0.10 for each extra (19 August 2026), and Ava AI’s $29 tier is really a bucket of 100 call minutes, billing $0.10 a minute after that (28 August 2026). So the honest comparison is not the headline tier. It is: how many units will a busy month actually consume, and what does the bill look like then? Here is what we would reach for, with prices we read ourselves.

The picks

1eeDesk
eDesk

How to choose

Start with a number rather than a shortlist: how many customer questions do you get in a busy month? Every app here prices off that figure, and the tiers are drawn to look generous at low volume. Then find the unit each one bills — replies, conversations, FAQ page views, call minutes or resolved tickets — and multiply your own number by the overage rate instead of reading the tier price. That one calculation separates these apps more than any feature comparison will. Two apps in this category do a different job and should not be priced against the others per ticket: Ava AI answers the phone, so it competes with a person rather than a widget, and Cloze is a pre-sales shopping assistant meant to convert browsers rather than deflect complaints. Last, weigh the age of the vendor against what you are handing over. Several of these launched in 2026 and carry single-digit review counts, and a support app sees customer names, addresses and order history.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Shopify support app really cost?

Less than the tier suggests at low volume and more at high volume, because almost none of them bill per seat. Take your own monthly question count and price it against the overage rate: $0.0159 per FAQ page view on StoreFAQ Professional, $0.10 per extra conversation on Cloze, $0.99 per AI resolution on eDesk, $0.07 to $0.10 a call minute on Ava AI. All read on the vendors’ own listings in August 2026, and all subject to change — check them again before you commit.

Is a free plan enough to run support on?

For a small store with repetitive questions, sometimes. NeuroAds gives 200 conversations a month free and AskNest gives 50 AI replies, and both are genuinely usable for judging answer quality on your own policy pages. But read what the free tier excludes: Dondy’s free plan is a chat button, and none of the marketing automation the app is named for is included — that starts at $79.99 a month.

Do I want a chatbot or a helpdesk?

They solve different problems. A chatbot deflects repeat questions before they become tickets and is priced per conversation. A helpdesk gives you a queue, assignment and history for the questions that get through, and is priced per agent. Stores with high volume and simple questions get more from deflection; stores with complex or high-value orders need the queue. HelpCenter is the one here that tries to do both at the small-store end.

Which of these is cheapest?

AskNest, at $4.99 a month for 500 AI replies read on 19 August 2026 — but only while your volume stays inside the bucket, and it does no ticketing or human handover. Cheapest-per-month and cheapest-at-your-volume are rarely the same app, which is the whole point of pricing the meter rather than the tier.
